Choose the Right Liner for Any Job
Bell Janitorial Supply makes it easy to find the best trash can liner for your needs — whether you handle everyday waste, sharp debris, or hazardous materials. Use this guide to compare bag types, thickness, sizes, and seals.
Types of Liners
High Density Liners (TuffSkins™)
Cost-effective, strong, and excellent at containing liquids and odors. Best for heavy but non-sharp waste in offices, restrooms, and general cleaning.
Low Density Liners (FlexiSkins™, ThickSkins™)
Highly puncture and tear-resistant. Stretches before breaking — perfect for trash with sharp or irregular edges and heavier debris.
Biohazard Liners
Meets OSHA and DOT requirements for safe disposal of infectious waste and soiled linen. Color-coded and labeled for safer handling.
How to Measure for Liner Size
- Bag Width: Half the outer circumference of your container.
- Bag Length: Container height + ½ the container bottom diameter + 3 inches for overhang.
- For square or rectangular containers, use half the diagonal measurement for width.
Understanding Gauge (Thickness)
Gauge is a measurement of a liner’s thickness. A liner that is too thick for the application wastes money. One too thin increases the risk of bag failure and can lead to unnecessary double bagging. Choose a liner gauge appropriate for the job – based on the type and weight of the trash.
- High Density: Measured in Microns (MICs).
- Low Density: Measured in Mils (1/1000 of an inch).
Pro Tip: When switching from Low Density to High Density, you can often down-gauge (use a thinner bag) without losing strength, saving money and reducing waste.
Which Seal Should I Choose?
Star Seal
The most common and reliable seal. Conforms to the shape of your container,
distributes weight evenly, and reduces leaks.
Flat Seal
A straight seal across the bag bottom. Simple and cost-effective — best for lighter or dry waste.
